Macalester Groveland

We went from “who would ever want this house?” to having a multiple award-winner. The 1911 bungalow was renovated to create an open, flexible, modern floor plan for our family within a fully restored shell. Sculptural new and salvaged or crafted industrial elements are inserted as contemporary additions. To fit with our modest budget, work was performed over seven years largely by ourselves and a few selected contractors. Highlights include numerous sustainable additions, new Andersen windows, a sky-lit ventilation core surrounded by translucent walls, customized IKEA kitchen, high tech galvanized steel front porch, and a modern-landscaped rear yard featuring his and hers single-car garages.
