Highland Park

We bought our house as a fixable wreck with decent bones located in a neighborhood we liked. Two earlier remodels, 1991 and 1997, renewed our rambler’s main floor and basement. Left for this year’s tour was the remodeler’s last frontier, the garage and the back yard. Here you will learn how to move a garage to a new concrete slab in a new location, repair its rotted base and improve its usefulness for parking and storage. Learn about code issues and how you might legally add a drain to your new garage slab. Down with winter slop! Our new outdoor garden area includes a disguised “marine roadway” for storing our sailboat behind the garage. The greenest building is the one you refurbish.
