Imagine a small town populated by artists, academics and politicians where neighbors meet to share lively conversation and great food. Marcy-Holmes, close to the University of Minnesota campus is such a place. Our 1917 early craftsman style home, was for many years the home of John Tate, physics professor and dean of the College of Science, Literature and the Arts. During our 16 years here, we’ve come to love the proximity to the rich cultural life of the university as well as the short walk to work, and appreciate the active neighborhood association that connects residents through numerous social events. After tackling several smaller projects – repainting, sanding floors, finishing the basement – we chose this year to expand our kitchen to include a “hearth room” for informal entertaining.
