West 7th - Brewery

Built 1923
James Zimmerman
This house was designed by famed architect Charles A. Hauser, who also built the larger house across the street. The previous owner was a woodshop teacher who built many storage spaces and customized the house for his family’s use. Recent projects: Updating living room ceiling, removing a doorway that joined two bedrooms and creating a bedroom in the basement. It has a poured epoxy floor, newly-plumbed repurposed radiator, corrugated metal ceilings, and egress window. Exterior walls are the exposed limestone foundation painstakingly re-mortared with Type N (half Portland cement, half lime) and a breathable transparent finish from Limeworks in England. With a dehumidifier during wet seasons, this preserves the walls and avoids mold. The Home Tour has served as deadline to complete the bedroom with trim and custom-building a doorway to fit a door found in the attic.
